It is not a name that would necessarily catch the southern eye for there are many places with 'Run' in their name from the historic to the relative unknown.
But for the non-southerner, it is an eye-catcher and one that should initiate further research. For those who recognise the word 'RUN' in its locale application, it should indicate the quality contained within.
Much can be said for many groups by the name they have chosen. It can show thought and inventiveness which may indicate the effort put into each release  or concert appearance.
Such is the case with "Virginia Run".  While much of the material is well known by its source such as Bill Monroe's Georgia Rose, Virginia Run applies a distinct sound of their own to the vocals and mastery of instrumentation.
From the opening 'Georgia Rose' to the closing 'Redemption Draweth Near', the listener is drawn to the silk smooth vocals led by Scott Linton. Distinctively his  voice, Linton is Skaggs-like without that harsh upper reach. He is exacting  technically with a sound as pretty as a spring magnolia or a dogwood in bloom. His vocals are so enrapturing as to paint a work of art with each note.
This is a release that should be one of the oft returned to in any bluegrass afficiondo's collection.
Highlights include the title cut 'Blueridge', 'Georgia Rose', 'Midnight Highway', 'Keep A Memory' and 'Redemption Draweth Near' but every cut is a keeper. Pay special attention to the words of 'Elements' skilfully written and arranged with sentiment in the presention and passion in the sentiment.
I would trust that this will not be the only recording venture of this group. They show potential to have a long lasting impact in this area of the music world.
